Common FDA-approved gasket materials include BUNA-N (Nitrile), VITON/FKM, PTFE (Teflon), and EPDM, all of which can comply with FDA 21CFR177.2600 and 21CFR177.1550. PTFE offers the broadest chemical resistance, VITON/FKM excels with oils and solvents, and BUNA-N is well-suited for general food and beverage applications. Material selection should match the specific media, temperature, and pressure conditions of your process.

A screen gasket combines a sealing gasket with an integrated stainless steel mesh filter screen, providing simultaneous sealing and inline filtration (available in 5, 20, or 100 micron). A solid envelope or unitized gasket provides only a leak-tight seal with no filtration function, and is used where a clean, chemically resistant barrier is needed without particulate removal.

Artesian Systems offers tri-clamp screen gaskets in 5 micron, 20 micron, and 100 micron ratings, all using 316L stainless steel screens. No. Due to the cold flow characteristics of PTFE, the standard 1550 PSI sanitary clamp service ratings do not apply to connections of 1 inch and larger when using any PTFE-based gasket. This restriction does not apply to fractional 1/2" and 3/4" sizes due to their recessed, fully contained design. PTFE gaskets are also not recommended for use with bolted clamp assemblies.

Screen gaskets are available in sizes from 1.5" to 6" tri-clamp. Solid envelope and unitized PTFE x EPDM gaskets are available in a wider range from 1.5" to 12", accommodating larger-diameter sanitary piping systems used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, and industrial fluid handling applications.

PTFE x EPDM envelope and unitized gaskets have a shelf life of 10 years from cure date when stored correctly. Store in original packaging in a clean, dry warehouse between 65°F and 85°F. Keep away from direct sunlight and maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet from electric motors, which can generate ozone and accelerate elastomer degradation.
