PTFE Gaskets for Chemical Processing Plants

An envelope gasket wraps a PTFE outer layer around an EPDM elastomer filler, offering chemical resistance on the contact surface with elastomeric spring-back. A unitized gasket features a one-piece PTFE sealing surface permanently bonded to an EPDM core, providing improved installation stability and reduced component movement — particularly beneficial in systems with minor ferrule misalignment.

Yes. All PTFE and PTFE/EPDM gaskets from Artesian Systems comply with FDA 21CFR177.2600. Screen gaskets also meet FDA 21CFR177.1550 and have passed U.S.P. Class VI Cytotoxicity testing. Products are suitable for GMP-regulated pharmaceutical, food, and beverage processing environments and meet 3A Sanitary Standards and USDA requirements.

Artesian Systems offers PTFE tri clamp gaskets ranging from 1.5" up to 12". Envelope and unitized PTFE/EPDM solid gaskets are available in 1.5", 2", 3", 4", 6", 8", 10", and 12". Screen gaskets (20 and 100 micron) are available from 1.5" through 6" to fit standard sanitary tri clamp connections.

Standard 1,550 PSI service ratings for sanitary clamps do NOT apply to connections 1" and above using PTFE gaskets due to cold flow potential. This restriction is waived for fractional 1/2" and 3/4" sizes, which feature a recessed, fully contained design. PTFE gaskets are also not recommended for use with bolted clamp assemblies.

Artesian Systems offers PTFE tri clamp screen gaskets in 20-micron and 100-micron filtration ratings. Both combine a PTFE/Teflon gasket body with a 316L stainless steel filter screen for simultaneous sealing and inline filtration. The 20-micron version is suited for finer particle removal, while the 100-micron version handles coarser straining in sanitary pipelines.

PTFE/EPDM envelope and unitized gaskets have a 10-year shelf life from the cure date. Store them in original packaging in a clean, dry warehouse at 65°F to 85°F. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and keep units more than 6 feet from electric motors to prevent ozone-related elastomer degradation.
