PTFE Gaskets

Yes, PTFE is widely used as a gasket material, especially in sanitary and chemical processing applications. It offers broad chemical resistance and FDA compliance. However, pure PTFE can be prone to cold flow and creep under pressure. Envelope or unitized PTFE-EPDM designs address this by combining PTFE's chemical resistance with an elastomer core for improved sealing memory and stability.

An envelope gasket wraps a PTFE outer layer around an EPDM filler core, providing a flanged or un-flanged sealing profile. A unitized gasket uses a one-piece bonded construction with a PTFE sealing surface over an EPDM core. The unitized design reduces component movement and improves installation stability, making it better suited for systems where consistent alignment is critical.

Artesian Systems' PTFE gaskets are available in sizes ranging from 1.5" to 12" depending on the design type. Envelope and unitized gaskets are available up to 12", while screen gaskets (20 and 100 micron) are available in sizes from 1.5" to 6". This range accommodates a wide variety of sanitary tri-clamp pipeline configurations.

Yes. All PTFE gaskets from Artesian Systems comply with FDA 21CFR177.2600, and applicable products also comply with 21CFR177.1550. Screen gaskets carry 3A Sanitary Standards approval, USDA approval, and have passed U.S.P. Class VI Cytotoxicity testing. Envelope and unitized gaskets are GMP-compatible, making them suitable for pharmaceutical, food, and beverage manufacturing environments.

PTFE screen gaskets combine a PTFE/Teflon gasket with a 316L stainless steel filter screen, providing both sealing and inline filtration in a single component. Available in 20-micron and 100-micron ratings, they are used in food and beverage processing, pharmaceutical and bioprocessing, dairy fluid handling, and chemical processing applications requiring particle removal at tri-clamp pipeline connections.

PTFE x EPDM envelope and unitized gaskets have a shelf life of 10 years from the cure date. They should be stored in original packaging in a clean, dry warehouse environment between 65°F and 85°F. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and keep gaskets at least 6 feet away from electric motors to prevent premature degradation of the elastomer core.
