PTFE Gaskets for Food & Beverage Processing

An envelope gasket features a PTFE outer shell wrapped around an EPDM elastomer core, while a unitized gasket uses a one-piece bonded PTFE-EPDM construction. Both combine PTFE's chemical resistance with EPDM's elasticity and sealing memory, but the unitized design offers improved installation stability and reduced component movement due to its single integrated structure.

Artesian Systems offers PTFE tri-clamp screen gaskets in two filtration ratings: 20 micron and 100 micron. Both use a 316L stainless steel filter screen bonded to a PTFE gasket body. The 20-micron option captures finer particulates and is suited for pharmaceutical or high-purity applications, while the 100-micron version handles broader inline straining in food and beverage lines.

Solid envelope and unitized gaskets are available in 1.5", 2", 3", 4", 6", 8", 10", and 12" tri-clamp sizes. Screen gaskets (both 20 and 100 micron) are available in 1.5", 2", 2.5", 3", 4", and 6" sizes. All are designed for standard sanitary tri-clamp ferrule connections and are not recommended for use with bolted clamps.

Yes. These gaskets are designated sanitary/pharmaceutical grade and meet GMP guidelines. The screen gasket models have additionally passed U.S.P. Class VI Cytotoxicity testing, confirming biocompatibility for sensitive bioprocessing and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. They are suitable for use in regulated life sciences, biopharmaceutical, and medical device manufacturing systems.

The standard 1550 PSI sanitary clamp service rating does not apply to connections 1" and larger when using PTFE-based gaskets, due to the cold flow characteristics of PTFE under sustained pressure. This restriction does not apply to 1/2" and 3/4" fractional sizes, which use a recessed, fully contained design that prevents cold flow-related seal degradation.

PTFE x EPDM gaskets have a 10-year shelf life from the cure date. They should be stored in their original packaging in a clean, dry warehouse at temperatures between 65°F and 85°F. Keep gaskets away from direct sunlight and at least 6 feet from electric motors or other ozone-generating equipment, which can degrade elastomer components over time.
